Band News Northeast Ohio Community Reading Band V Thursday, October 4, 2007, will be the fifth annual Northeast Ohio Community Reading Band. Musicians from this whole area of the state are invited to join guest conductor, Marcus Neiman (Medina Community Band and Sounds of Sousa) for an evening of reading through some excellent music together. A unique feature of the event is that music is being selected from the BandMusic PDF Library and includes marches, ragtime, overtures, a suite, trombone smears and dances by such notable composers as Percy Aldrich Grainger, John Philip Sousa, Karl King, Henry Fillmore and many more. Worthy music by less well known composers is also included. The selected music is currently posted on the website or will be in the near future. The reading band will meet from 7 to 9 pm in North Royalton Middle School band room. There is no charge for participating but advance registration is required in order to have sufficient music folders available. Social time with refreshments is a built in feature of the evening. Links: Community Band Open Enrollment North Royalton Community Band is holding open enrollment for anyone who played at least one year in a high school marching or concert band. Younger musicians are welcome to join with the recommendation of their band director. Rehearsals are held each Thursday at the NR Middle School Band Room from 7 to 9 pm beginning on September 6. Has it been a while since you played in that high school band? Not to worry. Some of the most successful members of the band had time away from their instruments, anywhere from 10 to 40 years. Members of the band will help newcomers get back into the swing of things, if requested. Prospective members are welcome to bring an instrument, in playing condition, and sit in with the band for a few weeks before making a decision. This season, NR Community Band celebrates 10 years of entertaining audiences in North Royalton. The first activity will be preparing for a Kids’ Show for Halloween. Join the band and join in the fun! WADSWORTH FESTIVAL OF COMMUNITY BANDS (OHIO) Northeast Ohio will be supercharged with the sound of band music at the Wadsworth Festival of Community Bands on Saturday, July 7, 2007 in downtown Wadsworth, near the gazebo. This is the first such festival in the area and promises a full day of exciting entertainment and musical presentations. There is something for every level of playing as the day of music begins with master classes for musicians, being presented by professional and university level instructors. Additionally there will be a unique "Petting Zoo," where kids can actually hold and try making sounds on real musical instruments. Part of the entertainment between bands will be historic re-enactments, a roving barbershop quartet and a jazz band performance in the gazebo, all in downtown Wadsworth. Hour long concerts will be performed by the following Community Bands:
This is community music at its best and includes music to appeal to a broad range of tastes. Area musician, Mell Csicsila, will be featured with the North Royalton Community Band performing two xylophone solos with the band providing accompaniment. Mr. Csicsila is a noted Cleveland area percussionist and has performed with The Cleveland Orchestra, Blossom Festival Band, Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, diverse theater productions and as soloist with many community bands. The whole city of Wadsworth is gearing up to present the bands, fun activities for kids and adults plus food of every description. The festival is open to the public and all the performances are free of charge.
